Miguel
Ríos,
Jr. is founder and Chief Executive Officer of ORION International
Technologies, Inc., (ORION). He has more than 30 years experience
that includes fundamental research; systems analysis, engineering,
design, fabrication, test and evaluation, and program planning and
management. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University
of Maryland in 1971 and conducted post-doctorate research in nuclear
astrophysics at the California Institute of Technology.
Dr.
Ríos worked for almost a decade at Sandia National Labs in
diverse fields as:
- Defense
- security and survivability of nuclear weapons,
- Nuclear
Energy
- safety and security of light-water and liquid-metal cooled reactors,
- Solar
Energy - research and development of photovoltaic concentrator
modules and arrays

ORION
has grown under the leadership of Dr. Ríos to a company of
approximately 200 employees, with corporate headquarters in Albuquerque,
New Mexico and operations at various locations throughout the country
including Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. The company began operations
in 1985, and currently provides engineering services and research
and development support to DoD, DOE, DOT, National Laboratories, and
large DoD prime contractors in areas such as directed-energy technologies,
space technologies, information technologies, test and evaluation
and nuclear weapons and counterproliferation.
Dr.
Ríos was
voted Outstanding Physics Teacher of the Year and elected
Distinguished Alumnus at Cal State University, Los Angeles.
He has served on professional boards and committees at the local,
state, and national level. He has lectured on photovoltaics in Central
America and Mexico on behalf of the U.S. International Communication
Agency.

Through
ORION, Dr. Rios has been totally committed to the development
and implementation of state-of-the-art technologies. In 1992,
Dr. Rios was selected as the Hispanic Engineer Entrepreneur
of the Year. He was recently recognized by the Office
of Minority Business Development Agency, Department of Commerce
as 1999 National Minority Entrepreneur of the Year.
Both he and his wife, Maria Estela de Ríos, Managing Director, received an Award
of Entrepreneurship from the Ministry of Foreign Relations
of Mexico.

Dr.
Rios' dedication to achieving innovative, dynamic and cost effective
solutions has resulted in ORION's record of excellence. The
New Mexico Quality Awards, based on Malcolm Baldrige Quality Program,
recognized ORION in 1998 with the Road Runner Quality Award
for quality management. In 1999, the U.S. Small Business Administration
selected ORION as its 1999 National Prime Contractor of
the Year.
